PSP Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal announced to postpone sit-in

Karachi: After successful talks between Sindh government and Pak Sarzamin Party, Mustafa Kamal announced to postpone sit-in till February 18.
Provincial Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah arrived at the PSP sit-in last night and talked to the participants that we have accepted many things related to the Local Government Act.
Nasir Hussain Shah said that suggestions should be received from PSP and other parties, which have been discussed before. He said that many hours long negotiations have taken place and in the end Mustafa Kamal won.
Addressing the participants, Chairman PSP Mustafa Kamal said, the next course of action will be announced on 18th February.
Details of the talks between provincial government and PSP were not disclosed.
Earlier, an agreement was reached between Jamaat-e-Islami and Sindh government on the night of January 27 to amend the Sindh Local Government Act 2021, after which the Jamaat-e-Islami ended a 27-day sit-in outside the Sindh Assembly.
The salient features of the agreement are as follows.
- Health related institutions will be handed over to local bodies again.
- The provincial government will provide monthly and annual funding to UC on a population basis.
- According to the written agreement, educational institutions will be handed over to local bodies.
- The Provincial Finance Commission will be given after taking over the powers of the local body representatives.
- The proceeds from the motor vehicle tax will be paid according to the share of the city government.
- Building control authority and Development authorities power will be given to Mayor and Chairman.
- The Solid Waste Management Board will be subordinate to the Mayor of Karachi.
- Under the agreement, the Sindh government will extend full support to the metropolitan government for granting university status to Karachi Medical and Dental College.
- Additional water projects in Karachi will be completed soon.
- At the request of Jamaat-e-Islami, the Sindh government will revive the student union.
Negotiations will continue for the points on which no agreement has been reached.
