Prices of petroleum products were likely to go up from September 1, but the Prime Minister has rejected the proposal to increase the prices of petroleum products.

OGRA had prepared two separate proposals to increase prices by Rs 3.5 to 9 per liter.

The Prime Minister has said that the people are in trouble due to the recent rains in the country including Karachi, therefore it is not possible to increase the prices of petroleum products, it cannot impose more burden on the people in difficult circumstances.

According to OGRA, the first proposal was prepared in the context of the prices of petroleum products in the global market, which included raising the price of petrol by Rs3.50 and high speed diesel by Rs3.75 per liter.

The second proposal by OGRA to increase the prices was in the light of keeping the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel at Rs 30, in which petrol was asked to be increased by Rs 8 and high speed diesel by Rs 9 per liter.
