President Arif Alvi leaves for China on two-day visit
ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday left for China on a two-day visit to express solidarity with the Chinese leadership and people and appreciate their efforts to handle the coronavirus.
During his visit, the president will meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
Speaking to the media before departure, the president said, “I am undertaking the visit to express solidarity with the Chinese leadership and people and appreciate their efforts to handle the coronavirus.” He said he would also express condolence with the Chinese leadership over the loss of precious human lives due to this virus.
Arif Alvi said the visit would also provide an opportunity to learn from the Chinese experiences to check the coronavirus. A delegation including the foreign minister, minister for planning and development and other senior officials are accompanying the president.
A number of Memorandum of Understandings are expected to be signed during the visit.
Earlier, in a video message, President Alvi urged the nation to adopt precautionary measures to protect from Covid-19.
He asked the countrymen to take responsibility of educating others about the precautions against the disease.
The president said all of us should wash hands with soap within an hour, use tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing and refuse to shake hands and hugging with others. He said we should also avoid going to the crowded places.
Dr Arif Alvi said it was the high time for the nation to play collective role with responsibility in the fight against this pandemic.
