President Arif Alvi administers oath to Pervez Elahi as CM Punjab
PMLQ-PTI joint candidate Pervez Elahi took oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab in the wee hours of Wednesday at the Aiwan-e-Sadar after the Supreme Court dethroned Hamza Shehbaz as Punjab CM.
According to the report, the 3-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar, delivered a safe decision, which was awaited by political analysts, media and all parties involved in the case.
In the decision, the ruling of Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly declared null and void and said that Parvez Elahi is the new Chief Minister of Punjab, adding that, Chief Secretary should issue a notification for the appointment of Pervez Elahi as the Chief Minister.
The Supreme Court said in the verdict that the cabinet formed by Hamza Shehbaz has been dissolved.
In the decision, it was directed that a copy of the court decision should be sent to the Governor of Punjab, if the Governor refuses to take the oath, then the President should take the oath.
Later, after being excused from taking the oath by Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Moonis Elahi, Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, Zain Qureshi and Murad Ras arrived in Islamabad where the President of the State, Dr. Arif Alvi took oath from Chief Minister Pervez Elahi.
