President Alvi says will follow PM Shehbaz’s advice on army chief’s appointment
President Arif Alvi on Friday said that he will follow the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the appointment of the next army chief, according to sources.
President Arif Alvi had a conversation with his close aides as he discussed the appointment of the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).
“I do not have the legal authority to stop the prime minister’s advice; I have never interfered in the affairs of the state,” said President Alvi.
Notably, COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s tenure is coming to its end on November 29.
On the other hand, PTI senior vice president Fawad Chaudhry has said that whatever step the president will take regarding the appointment of the army chief, he will get the support of party chairman Imran Khan.
Taking to twitter, Fawad maintained that the President will fulfill his constitutional responsibility in the appointment process of army chief.
He wrote: “Let me make it clear that whatever step the President of the State takes will get the full support of Imran Khan.”
Earlier today, President Arif Alvi met federal finance minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s close aide Ishaq Dar in the President House.
During the meeting, the appointment of the new army chief was also discussed and the finance minister took the president into confidence for the important appointment, sources of the federal government informed.
