PPP leader Yousaf Raza Gillani elected as senator
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Yousaf Raza Gillani has been elected as a senator on the general seat by bagging 169 votes.
The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf government’s candidate Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has been defeated after receiving 164 votes, in a big upset. Total 340 votes were casted and seven of them were rejected. Polling agent of Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has raised objection on the process of balloting.
Now Yousaf Gillani can become a candidate for the seat of Senate chairman. While, the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf can challenge the polling results.
On women’s seat, PTI candidate Fozia Arshad won by bagging 174 votes against Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Farzana Kausar, 161.
Senate seats from Balochistan
Abdul Qadir has been elected as an independent candidate from Balochistan on the general seat with 11 votes. Abdul Ghafoor Haidri of Jamiat Ulema e Islam won with 11 votes. Qasim Ronjho of BNP won with nine votes. While the other candidates who won from Balochistan on the general seat are Manzoor Kakar of BAP, Umar Farooq of ANP, Prince Umar Ahmedzai of BAP and Sarfraz Bugti of BAP.
10 PTI candidates won Senate elections from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
On general seats, Shibli Faraz, Mohsin Aziz, Liaquat Tarkai, Faisal Saleem and Zeeshan Khanzada won. On women’s seats, Falak Naz Chitrali and Dr Sania Nishtar won. On minority’s seat, Gurdeep Singh was elected. While on technocrat’s seats, Dost Mohammad and Humayun Mohmand were victorious. On the opposition’s side, Jamiat Ulema e Islam’s Maulana Attaur Rehman and Awami National Party’s Hidayatullah bagged victory.
