To observe Benazir Bhutto’s 12th death anniversary, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will hold a public rally at Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh today (Friday).
Benazir Bhutto was killed in a suicide-and-gun attack on 27 December 2007, after addressing an election rally at Liaquat Bagh before the 2008 general polls.
Since after Benazir’s death, PPP hold a public rally at Garhi Khuda Baksh to mark Benazir’s death anniversary. However, this year, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has selected the same venue for the jalsa where his mother was assassinated.
Meanwhile, PPP has announced plans to observe Benazir’s death anniversary at Liaquat Bagh in a befitting manner. To attend the public meeting, the PPP workers from across the country are reaching Rawalpindi.
Two stages have been prepared for the party leaders. According to details, the main stage which is 100 feet long and 60 feet wide, would accommodate the Bilawal Bhutto and PPP central command whereas, the second stage is for other party leaders.
The venue has been decorated with the PPP’s party flags and huge posters of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. More than 15,000 chairs have been placed at the venue, told PPP’s local leadership.
For the event, tight security arrangements have been made. Reports said that inside and around the venue more than 3,000 security personnel would be deployed. Meanwhile, Murree Road will remain closed for all kinds of traffic from Committee Chowk to Marir Chowk.
