A powerful car bomb blast on Monday left at least 10 people dead and wounded as many as 65 others, including nine children, in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul.
The blast was so strong that it shook offices and houses up to a significant distance as the smoke billowed up into the sky.
Interior Ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said the blast hit a densely populated area where the Ministry of Defense’s engineering and logistics department was located, near the United States embassy. He said shortly after the bomb-laden vehicle detonated in Kabul, several gunmen entered a building and opened firing.
Taliban have claimed responsibility for the blast. They said that their target was “the defense ministry’s technical installation.”
Pakistan has condemned the terrorist attack in Kabul. Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. “Such attacks are detrimental to the cause of peace, security and stability in Afghanistan,” he said.
Sharing the school-going children’s pictures, Pakistanis on social media have decried the attack.
