On Thursday, a suicide bombing was reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district with speculation that the potential target was the polio vaccination team.

Only the suicide bomber was killed in the blast which occurred in Hati Khan village in Union Council Nara Abu Samand, said the police.

An official involved in anti-polio efforts said a team of polio vaccinators had left the area after covering missed children and all the teams are perfectly safe and sound.

“Teams from the affected union councils have been called back to the support centre and missed children coverage will resume after security clearance. Catch up in rest of Lakki district continues,” the official said.

Qasim Khan, Lakki Marwat District police offer had initially said the bomber had missed the polio team due to high security.

However, he and the area’s deputy commissioner later claimed the suicide bombing was not linked to the ongoing vaccination drive.
