Police’s misuse of authority? ‘It takes two to make a quarrel’

Cases of police’s misuse of authority have surged quite recently, which have received substantial criticism on media. But, is it okay to talk bad about all in the same breath because of a handful of black sheep, without highlighting so many positive achievements of the department?

We need to think about public issues in a broader perspective. Not only people are to blame for this trait of skewed opinion. Police department should itself realize about the nature of its duties and the behavior its some officials are adopting towards fulfilling them. Police officials should identify rotten eggs among them and force them to fulfill their duties for safety of public.

The government also needs to play its role as promised in the election manifesto for police reforms and purge the department of criminal elements. Prior to the elections, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government had been blaming previous governments for not doing reforms in the department and now it could not make any significant improvement itself in this regard. The quote “promises are the sweetest lies” well suits the situation of the incumbent government.

In the past, we have witnessed that in the cases like Model Town, Baldia factory fire and Sahiwal incident the authorities have been clueless about the criminals and the victims suffer because of the delay. But, as is said, justice delayed, is justice denied.

In the last one decade police have committed numerous violations of limit of their authorities, but as is said “it takes two to make a quarrel’’. There should be a balance from both sides. The citizens also always fight for their rights while avoiding their responsibilities. They should also obey the law and fulfill their responsibilities.

All the illicit acts regardless of in which department and by whom they are committed should be treated equally and brought to justice.

Let’s hope that the government mulls over empowering the law and justice system in the country and ensure that justice is provided to poor and rich alike.

May God make PAKISTAN a prosperous country!!!
