Police officials ‘mistakenly’ shoot citizen dead in Karachi

KARACHI: Police officials on Friday mistakenly shot a citizen dead near Tecno City building on II Chundrigar Road in Karachi.

The Station House Officer of Mithadar police station said that Aslam, 48, son of Jamaluddin was shot dead and Waqar, 26, son of Muhammed Yunus, was injured by the firing of police officials of 15 Madadgar.

The police officials have been identified as Drive Police Constable Imran Habib, Police Constable Imran and Police Constable Sarfaraz.

The SHO said that the suspected police personnels were in custody as further investigation was underway. He said the injured was shifted to hospital for medical assistance.

Deputy Inspector General South Javed Akbar Riaz said that the security officials opened fire for they thought the victims were involved in suspicious activities.  He said SSP City Muqaddas Haider was investigating the incident.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and sought a detailed report of it from the Sindh IGP. “Such incidents are not acceptable at any cost,” he said.
