KOHAT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have foiled a bid to smuggle huge quantity of munition in Kohat on Friday.

Deputy Superintendent Police Bashir Dad Khan said the successful operation was carried out under the guidelines of DPO Capt (retd) Mansoor Aman for stopping smuggling of weapons and narcotics in the region. The operation was carried out by a police check post established at Indus Highway Toll Plaza, he said during a press conference.

Bashir Dad apprised that an ASI of police was also involved in the smuggling, who managed to flee, while a suspect Muhammed Ali, resident of Darra Adam Khel, was arrested. He said 25 pistols, five Kalashnikovs and 9,000 rounds were recovered from the suspect.

“The seized weapons were being smuggled to Lucky Marwat and Waziristan from Darra Adam Khel,” he said.

The police officer said an FIR had been lodged against the smugglers in Muhammed Riaz Shaheed police station, while investigation was underway to arrest the accomplices.
