KARACHI: Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) unit of Sindh Police has arrested five suspects involved in altering and tampering International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of snatched cell phones.
Talking to media, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Fida Hussain Janwari said the suspects had constituted a bond with each other while in jail earlier. He said they would alter IMEI numbers using a software.
He said 22 mobile phones worth lakhs of rupees had been recovered from their possession. He said head of the gang, Saeed was also involved in the incidents of robberies at houses.
The police officer said Saeed had formed this new gang in jail.
He said a mini Kalashnikov and three pistols were recovered from their possession.
The SSP said the AVCC was galvanized on directive of Inspector General Police Sindh Kaleem Imam against street criminals.
