A total of 300 people were arrested Thursday for violating the lockdown imposed in Karachi, including rickshaw and taxi drivers, police said.
They impounded more than 100 rickshaws and taxis. There have been 1,000 people arrested in the town so far.
Police, Rangers, and Army officials have been telling people to remain indoors and exercise social distancing. Nevertheless, the law enforcement authorities failed to follow what they preach.
During a trial visit, the police put eight offenders into one mobile police force in breach of social distancing laws. The Police van is capable of holding four men. The suspects were not wearing masks or gloves either.
At the other hand, 829 prisoners were released from jails at orders of the Sindh High Court as a precautionary measure against coronavirus spreading.
Until now, Pakistan has reported 1,197 cases of the virus. Of these cases, most of them are from Sindh.
