PML-N’s Javed Latif arrested from Lahore court
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Javed Latif was on Tuesday arrested from a district and sessions court in Lahore in the case pertaining to his anti-state remarks.
The public prosecutor pleaded to the court to remove bail of Javed Latif. He said that his statement amounted to overstepping the limits for the love of his leader. The PML-N leader’s video statement has been sent for forensic analysis.
The prosecutor said that the suspect had no ground to obtain a bail at this stage as the case fulfilled all the legal requirements.
In March 2021, Javed Latif had made a controversial statement during a TV programme following which a case was filed against him. He had said that his party would not say ‘we want Pakistan’, if anything happened to PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz.
Javed Latif’s lawyer said that the statement was made in context of the conspiracy of assassination of Maryam Nawaz.
After hearing arguments of both the parties, the court dismissed Javed’s interim bail.
