 PMD predicts rain, thunder-storm during Eid holidays

The Pakistan Meteorological Department [PMD] has forecast heavy rain with dust-storm and thunderstorm in several cities of the country including Karachi during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department [PMD] said that westerly winds are likely to affect the western parts of the country from May 1 due to which there is a possibility of rain with dust-storm and thunderstorm during Eid days.

“A westerly wave is likely to enter the western parts of the country from May 1, [which is expected] to persist till May 5,” a statement issued by the Met department said.

According to the Met department, westerly winds will continue to affect the areas till May 5. Thundershowers are expected in Chaghi, Noshki, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin and other areas from May 1 to 3.

Besides, dust-storm and thunderstorm are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Badin and Thatta from May 1 to 2, while thundershowers are also expected in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana and other areas.

Thundershowers are also expected in Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other areas during May 2-4.

It also forecast a drop in temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in the day during the rain spell and warned of landsliding in the potential areas of Gilgit-Baltistan during May 2 and 5.
