PM Shehbaz berates Imran Khan over Daily Mail case

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said it was a “heartless” approach by former prime minister Imran Khan and his “minions” when they got involved with British publication.

The premier said that PTI’s government made the worst attempt to defame Sharif family by ‘false allegations’.

“The worst and most despicable attempt was made to defame Pakistan inside and outside by making baseless allegations against PML-N, Nawaz Sharif and his family,” he said.

Referring to the PML-N supremo’s disqualification, premier furthered that the case of Panama went to Iqama as they found no evidence against Nawaz Sharif in Panama case.

While lambasting PTI chairman, PM Shehbaz said that Imran Niazi and his minions provided many documents to the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and the investigation continued for two years, but ‘God kept the honor of Pakistan’.

“They thought that if this damaged Pakistan’s reputation, it won’t matter. They wanted to embarrass the Sharif family no matter what,” the prime minister said.

PM Shehbaz added from 2008-2018, the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) provided 600 million pounds to Pakistan for flood affectees and most of that amount was given to Punjab.

“That amount was spent in a transparent manner. They aimed to prove that Shehbaz’s children laundered millions of rupees abroad. This is a part of the article,” he said.

Earlier, the British publication Daily Mail tendered an apology to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while withdrawing allegations of corruption against him and his son-in-law Imran Ali Yousaf.

In an article, Daily Mail journalist David Rose has leveled allegations against Premier Shehbaz about the alleged misappropriation of British public funds.

“We accept Mr Sharif has never been accused by the National Accountability Bureau of any wrongdoing in relation to British public money or DFID grant aid. We are pleased to make this clear and apologise to Mr Sharif for this error,” the clarification read.

Referring to the Imran Khan’s Toshakhana case, prime minister Shehbaz Sharif said that PTI chairman defamed Pakistan by selling the ‘expensive and single’ Graff’s watch, gifted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.

“This was a cheap move that Imran made by selling a watch that contained the image of Holy Kaaba,” the premier said.

“We should know how one person destroyed Pakistan’s economy, ruined bilateral relations and lied day and night,” the premier added.

While narrating the PML-N vice-president’s detention, PM Shehbaz said that Maryam Nawaz was arrested in front of him when she came to meet her father Nawaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat Jail.

“But by the grace of Allah, she got a clean chit from the Islamabad High Court,” he added.

PM Shehbaz lashed out at former prime minister Imran khan saying,” He did not feel ashamed that he tried to humiliate the daughters of the nation as Asif Zardari’s beloved sister Faryal Talpur was arrested on the night of Eid.”
