Prime Minister Imran Khan virtually addressed the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Financing for Development on Monday (today).
The conference was held to structure a frame work for the supply of Covid-19 vaccines to the developing countries. However, Imran Khan proposed five-point framework to develop the economy and to fight against the pandemic.
According to the PM, the COVAX Facility should be expended so that the developing countries would focus into investing for the socio-economic development.
Moreover, a privilege to postpone the debt refunding should be granted to most effected countries by covid-19 until the economic stability is attained.
The public-sector debt under an agreed and inclusive multilateral framework should be restructured and concessional financing through multilateral development banks should also be expanded, he said.
He further emphasized on recovering the looted assets under the possession of corrupt politicians and criminals. Imran Khan suggested apportionment of special drawing rights of $500 billion to ease the payment pressures.
“Our aim is to save people from contracting the virus and dying by it as well as to protect them from food scarcity,” said the PM.
