PM Imran directs to provide relief to people by reducing petrol, gas prices

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday directed for consideration of every feasible option to provide relief to the people by reducing prices of petrol and gas.

Presiding over a meeting in Islamabad, PM Imran said that the government’s main objective was to extend maximum possible relief to the low income group.

He directed his Special Assistant on Petroleum to immediately formulate a comprehensive roadmap with possibility to bringing down the prices of petrol, diesel and gas.

Referring to the irrational long term agreements by the previous rulers by burdening the people, the prime minister said despite all the factors, the government cannot remain silent and every option should be explored for provision of maximum relief.

During the meeting, PM’s Special Assistant on Petroleum Nadeem Babar briefed the PM in detail over the price mechanism of petrol, diesel and gas sector, global factors and prospects to reduce the prices and recommendations in this regard.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Feb 18 directed the relevant authorities to check electricity and gas tariff, so as the prices could be stabilized at sustainable basis, and masses be provided maximum relief.

“The foremost priority of the present government was masses especially the low income and poverty stricken people as well as the promotion of industries so as to push the wheels of economy,” he had said while presiding over a meeting in Islamabad.

The prime minister was told that people were facing the brunt of hike in electricity and gas tariff due to the previous governments’ agreements energy sectors.

The meeting was informed that the effective measures taken by the present government to check power pilferage resulted in the extra income of 122 billion rupees in electricity sector.
