PM discussing COAS’s appointment with convicted Nawaz is violation of office’s oath: Imran Khan
Former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan has lambasted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for discussing appointment of country’s higher security rank Chief of Army Staff (COAS) with convicted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Taking to twitter, PTI chief wrote, “Crime Minister discussing appointment of COAS and any other state matter with convict Nawaz Sharif and Ministers declaring they will appoint COAS after consulting Nawaz Sharif are all in contravention not only of the Official Secrets Act (section 5:1) but also of their oaths of office.”
Earlier, in a PML-N’s parliamentary party meeting in London, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif agreed on holding the next general elections at the stipulated time.
According to sources Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also consulted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding the appointment of new army chief.
Speaking in this regard, Khawaja Asif said that the procedure for appointing a new army chief will be the same as it has been going on for years.
The Defence Minister said that the phase of appointment of the new Army Chief will start 2 or 3 weeks before (retirement).
On the other hand, Imran Khan suggested extension in the tenure of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa till the next general elections.
