Planning Minister Asad Umar directs for expediting work on KCR project
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Thursday directed the concerned authorities to immediately initiate work for finalizing the implementation mechanism of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project.
Asad Umar said the KCR project would provide safe, efficient and reliable public transport for the citizens of Karachi.
Chairing a meeting to discuss the project in Islamabad, he said the government was fully committed to support the project for its expeditious implementation in consultation with the Chinese side.
On Oct 21, 2019, Planning Minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiyar had said the federal government-funded Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project should be operational in next nine months.
“The centre would provide fund for the 35 billion rupees project. No changes have been made in Green Line bus project. It will be executed according to its original plan,” Khusro Bakhtiyar had said while addressing a press conference in Karachi. He was flanked by Sindh Governor Imran Ismail.
“It will take time to bring reforms in Karachi. The centre would also introduce Red Line transport project in Karachi. 61 billion rupees will be spent on Yellow Line by World Bank, while Red Line will be constructed with grant provided by the Asian Development Bank,” the planning minister had said adding that the National Economic Council (ECNEC) had approved both the projects.
