PIA gives over 22,600 tickets to officers, employees in last 3 years

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) gave over 22,600 tickets to its officers and employees in the last three years of PTI government, according to the data provided by the Aviation Ministry.

The details presented by Federal Aviation Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique showed the national airline’s income was Rs328.67 billion and operational expenses were Rs148.40 billion in last three years.

The national airline earned Rs147 billion in 2019, Rs95 billion in 2020 and Rs86 billion in the year 2021 and spent Rs174.55 billion in 2019, Rs38.88 billion in 2020 and Rs35 billion in 2021 respectively on the salaries of staff, engine maintenance and wear and tear of the planes.

The PIA officials were given the privilege of 19500 domestic and 3000 abroad flights for free.

In the year 2020, 8286 free tickets were distributed to PIA officers, 7067 in 2021, while 7249 free tickets were distributed till September this year.

Saad Rafique lambasted PTI government saying that the political recruitment in institutions without merit destroyed the aviation department.
