KARACHI: United States of America (USA) has, for the first time in history, allowed Pakistan International Airlines to operate direct flights.
According to sources, in response to CEO PIA Air Marshal Arshad Malik’s appeal, the US Department of Transportation has released a letter.
PIA will be allowed to operate 12 direct flights to the US for one month according to the letter.
Earlier, PIA Air Marshal Arshad Malik’s Chief Operating Officer (CEO) wrote a letter to the US ambassador and state department requesting permission to operate special PIA flights to repatriate stranded Pakistanis in the US.
He said the PIA actively sought permission to resume flight operations to the United States, the covid-19 crisis had created a situation that demanded urgent air service to repatriate stranded people from both countries.
