The Ministers attending the Inter Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) on Monday have decided to reopen countrywide educational institutions in a phase-wise manner.
According to the Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood, classes from grade one to eight will commence from 25th January. However, the classes in higher educational institutions will begin from 1st February. Further on schools and colleges have been directed to conduct classes of Matric and Intermediate from 18th January.
Moreover, the scheduled time table for board exams have been altered. The examination will be held now in May and June instead of March and April.
The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on health Dr Faisal Sultan believed that closure of educational institutions aided in lowering the spread of Covid-19 and following the precautionary methods will be mandatory in order to refrain the spread of the contagious disease.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Education Minister, Murad Raas also announced the reopening of educational institutes in Punjab on his twitter account stating that “Classes 9,10,11,12 to open on January 18th 2021, classes ECE(Early Childhood Education) through 8th to open on January 25th, 2021”
All educational institutes have been closed for almost seven months last year in 2020 in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic and reopened again in September but after witnessing a surge in virus-related cases the authorities again announced a month-long closure fearing the second wave.
