PFPA demands restoration of Pakistani films in Cinemas

The Pakistan Film Producers Association has demanded the government to restore the screenings of Pakistani films in cinemas.
An important press conference on the current state of the film industry was held in collaboration with the Arts Council of Pakistan and the Film Producers Association. Adnan Siddiqui, Yasir Nawaz, Wajahat Rauf, Shazia Wajahat, Satish Anand, Amjad Rasheed and Badar Ikram gave briefings.
Chairman Pakistan Film Producers Association Amjad Rasheed said that as chairman of Producers Association he had anticipated this from the beginning that the upcoming Hollywood film will damage our films.
He said that we had tried from the very beginning to have a meeting with the stakeholders of the government to present our serious point of view before them.
Amjad Rasheed said that he also wrote letters to Maryam Aurangzeb on the whole issue but no solution could be found.
Adnan Siddiqui, the producer of the film Dum Mustam, said that next time he will think before making a film.
Dum Mustum producer said that we got support from the people, we did not get support from the cinemas and the government.
“After five days, people don’t go to see the film in cinemas. We have invested our savings. Our films are making money, it is not that the cinemas are empty.” Siddiqui added.
Filmmakers Yasir Nawaz and Nida Yasir also expressed concern over the current situation.
Yasir Nawaz said that we had worked day and night in the promotion of the film but cinemas screening a Hollywood movie. It is better yet, we would make dramas instead of films.
Wajahat Rauf, producer of the film Pardey main Rehney do, said that he does not want to ban any film but want regulation.
Actor Javed Sheikh has demanded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take action on the issue.
“We can invest our money in something else but we are investing in cinema. We are taking risks for the revival of Pakistan film industry.” Sheikh said.
Badar Ikram said that he had asked for only four days for four big Pakistani films on Eid. The ministry had also given assurance but our shows have been dropped since three o’clock yesterday.
