PESHAWAR: Hayatabad Medical Complex of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has started receiving plasma of the patients, who have recovered from coronavirus, to treat COVID-19 patients.
Plasma processing machinery worth Rs5 million has been installed at MHC hospital to receive plasma. It costs Rs20,000 to the government on plasma donated by one donor. One donor can give 100 millilitre blood, through which four patients could be treated.
Sources of health department said the government did not have enough machinery to collect plasma on a large scale and also faced difficulty for lack of cooperation from plasma holders.
It may be noted that treatment of COVID-19 patients with plasma therapy has already started in Karachi.
