Those who do not wear masks in public places in Karachi are being fined Rs 500 but where is this money going?
Citizens are being fined on directives of Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shalawani who also holds charge of Commissioner Karachi.
Citizens are raising a number of questions, including where the money is going and under what law these fines are being imposed.
Sindh Government and District Administration are implementing SOPs and agreed policies of National Command and Operation Center against Corona virus.
Assistant Commissioner Southern District further said that the proceeds from the fines have been deposited in the Board of Revenue of the Sindh government. The fine for not wearing a mask is deposited in the account of the Board of Revenue in any branch of the National Bank of Pakistan.
He said that data on how many people were fined is submitted to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on a daily basis. Which are then sent to the Commissioner’s Karachi office where all the data is collected and sent to the National Command and Operations Center.
Ahmed Ali Soomro, Assistant Commissioner, Eastern District, said that fines are being imposed under the Sindh Epidemic Act, 2014 for violating Corona Virus SOPs.
