PDM leaders disparage PTI govt’s attempt to stop public rally
MULTAN: The coalition of about 10 opposition parties, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has turned Ghanta Ghar roundabout of Multan into a public meeting place after the government placed containers on the way leading to Qasim Bagh Stadium, which was announced as the venue for the rally.
Leaders of the opposition parties, addressing the rally, condemned the government’s attempt to stop them from holding the public meeting.
According to details, a public gathering was announced to be held at Qasim Bagh Stadium in Multan on Nov 30 (today), by the PDM.
Aseefa Bhutto, the youngest daughter of Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari, has entered into national politics with this gathering due to Bilawal Bhutto’s coronavirus. She led a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) rally from Gilani House which ended at Ghanta Ghar Chowk.
On the other hand, PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman along with a large number of workers reached Ghanta Ghar and presided over the meeting while PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz also reached the place where she was received by former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
It should be noted that the management has placed locks on gates of the Qasim Bagh Stadium due to which no meeting could be arranged in the stadium. Besides, the management had also removed the banners and flags of PDM from the stadium.
Heavy contingents of police were deployed around the stadium and at the same time the routes were closed with containers in different parts of the city while mobile phone and internet service had also been suspended in different areas.
Punjab Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the government would deal with iron hand against those who violated coronavirus SOPs.
