PBC observes nationwide strike over out of turn appointment in apex court

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) is observing nationwide strike on Tuesday (today) over out of turn appointment of a Sindh High Court judge in the Supreme Court.

The PBC said that four senior judges of the SHC were ignored and the judge of fifth position was elevated as a judge of the top court.

“Appointment of a junior judge at the Supreme Court is not acceptable,” the bar council said.

The PBC said that the landmark judgement of the Supreme Court given in ‘Al-Jehad Trust Case’ on the principle of seniority was ignored through the appointment, therefore lawyers would observe countrywide strike on July 13 and will not appear in any court.
