Passengers injured as US fighter jets intercept Iranian plane over Syria
TEHRAN: Several passengers were injured in an incident when an Iranian passenger plane was intercepted by two fighter jets in Syrian airspace.
Iran’s IRIB news agency reported that two US jets approached the Air plane forcing pilot to make a sudden change of direction and altitude, causing several injuries. The plane has landed back in Tehran.
“Mahan Air pilot was forced to drop altitude to avoid collision with US F-15 jet, wounding multiple passengers,” the Iranian media reported.
The news agency quoted a passenger as saying that his head hit the plane’s roof as the pilot suddenly changed the altitude, while a video showed an elderly passenger sitting on the floor.
“I don’t know what happened. A black plane came close to our plane and our plane lost its balance. I was sprung up and my head was banged against the ceiling,” said one passenger.
“It was a fighter jet. A fighter jet was literally sticking to our plane. We lost balance and bounced up and down,” another passenger relayed.
