Pakistan’s economic hub Karachi is 5th least liveable city in new ranking

Pakistan’s premier industrial and financial center Karachi was ranked fifth in the least liveable cities, according to an annual survey compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
The EIU index ranks living conditions in 173 cities based on more than 30 factors, including natural and quantitative factors in the areas of sustainability, health facilities, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
This year, Karachi is ranked 168th out of 173 cities in the list of the world’s worst cities for living, ranking only better than cities like Algeria, Tripoli, Lagos and Damascus.
Meanwhile, the Austrian capital Vienna has once again been ranked as the world’s best city to live in.
The Russian capital, Kyiv, has not been included in the list this year since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, while the Russian capital, Moscow, and St. Petersburg have dropped 13 places due to censorship and the effects of Western sanctions.
According to the report, Vienna has snatched the title of best city from Auckland, New Zealand, which has risen from number one to number 34 due to strict restrictions on movement in the city during the Corona epidemic.
Last year, Vienna lost its place to 12th place due to the closure of the city’s museums and restaurants due to Corona, but this year it has regained its place after the restoration of cultural and social life.
Report stated, the salient features of the city are its stability and good infrastructure, besides good medical facilities and cultural and recreational opportunities are also attractive to the citizens.
This year, as every year, the list includes the names of the world’s cities that have been named the least livable due to their poor living standards.
The most uninhabitable is the Syrian capital, Damascus, followed by the Nigerian city of Lagos, the third by the Libyan city of Tripoli, followed by the Algerian capital by the same name.
Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and economic hub has been named the world’s fifth least liveable city due to its extremely poor living standards.
This year, Sindh’s capital ranked 168th out of 173 cities with an index score of 37.5, Karachi’s healthcare score is 33.3, it scored 35.2 for culture and environment, 66.7 for education and 51.8 for infrastructure.
