Pakistan’s 34 percent population suffering from mental stress and depression, say psychologists

34 percent of Pakistan’s population is suffering from severe mental stress, anxiety and depression problems due to unemployment and law and order situations in the country, Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS) said.
World Health Organization celebrates ‘World Mental Health Awareness Day’ on October 10 every year and this year’s theme is mental health.
According to the Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS), on one hand we are facing a shortage of psychiatrists in the country and on the other hand, we have no vacancies for psychiatrists in government hospitals.
“Where we have vacancies, we face shortage of doctors,” PPS added.
According to health experts, making people with mental health a part of society, reduces the perception of mental illness as insanity in the people of society.
“We should take steps to bring them back to life,” psychiatrists said.
Psychologists informed: “34 percent of Pakistan’s population suffers from mental stress, anxiety and depression, while, unemployment, deteriorating law and order situation and natural calamities like floods have caused physical damage in the society,”
