Pakistani swimmer Faizan Akbar goes missing in Hungary

Pakistan’s talented young swimmer and four-time national gold medalist Faizan Akbar mysteriously went missing in Hungary just hours after arriving last week to compete in the 19th FINA World Championships, which are currently underway.
Faizan Akbar, 22, hails from Rawalpindi was part of the four-member Pakistani team participating in the 19th FINA World Championship on Self-Finance.
According to details released on the Hungarian Police website, Faizan Akbar has been missing since July 18. He was scheduled to compete in the 100-meter backstroke on June 19, but the World Swimming website has mentioned “Did not Start” next to his name which means he mysteriously went missing before competitions.
Faizan Akbar’s name is listed in the list of missing persons on the Hungarian police website.
Swimming team sources have expressed concern that Faizan may have gone to France with a relative, but this has not been officially confirmed.
In this regard, several contacts were made with the officials and team manager of Pakistan Swimming Federation during the last two days but no phone call or message was answered.
Sources said that the matter has also been brought to the notice of the authorities in Pakistan.
