Pakistani govt pledges US$ 3 Million towards the SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund

Pakistan’s government has committed $3 million to finance global efforts in the war against Coronavirus to the SAARC Covid-19 Emergency Fund.
The Foreign Office exchanged information about the use of the fund with the SAARC Secretariat. The Secretary on Foreign Affairs reiterated Pakistan’s contribution to SAARC and regional cooperation.
When transmitting Pakistan’s decision to the SAARC Secretariat, it was communicated that the SAARC Secretariat would manage all of the Fund’s proceeds and that the modalities for the use of the Fund should be decided through consultations with Member States under the SAARC Charter.
During a telephone conversation today between Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood and Secretary General SAARC Esala Ruwan Weerakoon,
Pakistan’s perspective in this regard was also conveyed.
Pakistan is a founding member and regards SAARC as an important forum for regional cooperation. Pakistan remains committed to the SAARC process and will continue to work to enhance regional cooperation with the Member States.
