A woman of Pakistani origin, Saima Mohsin is going to become the first Muslim attorney in Michigan as well as in the United States on Feb 2.
After Matthew Schneider will abnegate his power on Feb 1, the 52-year-old woman will take oath as the acting US attorney for the eastern district of Michigan in Detroit. Schneider has served on the post for three years, while Mohsin was serving as the first assistant U.S. attorney with him during the meanwhile.
She had been working as a federal prosecutor for around 19 years.
“I’m extremely pleased to leave this office in the hands of one of the finest federal prosecutors I’ve ever known, Saima Mohsin,” Schneider said.
He said she was a dynamic trial lawyer and a talented manager. “As the first woman, immigrant, Muslim United States Attorney in American history, her service is truly historic. Saima will be an outstanding representative and defender of our community as the Acting United States Attorney,” he said.
