The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) guaranteed the nation that it has kept a close eye on the happenings in the Middle East following the rise of tension between the United States and Iran when Iranian General Qassem Soleimani was assassinated by the US.
MOFA Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui, spoke to Arab News promising that Pakistani citizens in Iraq will be protected at all costs.
“We are watching the situation in the Middle East closely, which also includes the safety of our people there,” she said.
On Friday, US said that it killed Soleimani in a drone strike in Baghdad. US President Donald Trump ordered the attack and said the Quds commander had been anticipating an attack on US diplomats and forces in Iraq.
Soleimani was the commander of his country’s elite Al Quds force.
After the airstrike and the assassination of its leader, Iran vowed ‘severe revenge.’
