ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday has handed over a list of 282 Indian prisoners, with 55 civil and 227 fishermen, in Pakistan to the High Commission of India in Islamabad.
According to Foreign Office press release, this move is in accordance with the terms of the Consular Access Agreement between Pakistan and India signed on 21 May 2008 requiring both countries to share lists of prisoners in custody twice a year, respectively on 1 January and 1 July.
The Indian government will also exchange with the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi the list of Pakistani prisoners.
The FO also said that in their respective countries, Pakistan and India have formally shared lists of nuclear installations and facilities.
Pakistan’s list of nuclear facilities was handed over to the Indian representative in Islamabad, while Pakistani official in New Delhi obtained the list from the Indian side.
In compliance with Article-II of the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attacks on Nuclear Installations and Facilities between the two States, signed on 31 December 1988, this act is carried out every year on 1 January.
