Coronavirus patients around the country are at risk of a shortage of Dexamethasone. Health Department’s drug management division has taken note of the drug’s shortage, says a media source.
All pharmacies will ensure the availability of dexamethasone tablets and syrups, as per the notification issued by the Ministry of Health. Pharmacies do not market the medication at prices greater than the price set by (Pakistan Medication Regulatory Authority (DRAP).
For retailers and pharmacies, it was also directed to keep a record of the buying and sale of medicines.
The drug should only be sold to those who have a doctor’s prescription. The notification said dexamethasone is a steroid in Pakistan which has a large number of manufacturers.
The Ministry of Health also banned the selling of over-the-counter drugs in the country, and instructed all pharmacists to provide consumers with knowledge of this.
The health ministry says the medication is used only by patients who are seriously sick and chronically ill. Strict action against the pharmacy concerned shall be taken in the event of a breach.
