Pakistan Army to remain ‘apolitical’ despite propaganda, false narrative: COAS Gen Bajwa

Outgoing chief of the army staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that the Pakistan Army will remain steadfast in its decision to remain ‘apolitical’ despite propaganda and false narratives against the institution.
In an exclusive interview with UAE-based publication Gulf News, COAS General Bajwa said that Pakistan’s forces have always played a role in controlling internal disturbances; Pakistan’s armed forces have maintained balance in world politics through military diplomacy.
Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa believed that the army’s decision to become “apolitical” will help enhance its prestige in the long term.
“Pakistan Army has always remained a dominant player in national decision-making. Due to its historic role in country’s politics, the military drew severe criticism from public and politicians alike,” he said.
General Bajwa added the army will remain firm on its decision to remain ‘apolitical’ despite propaganda and false narratives.
“The decision to remain ‘apolitical’ will promote political stability in Pakistan,” he added.
The general reiterated that the army has restricted its “role to its constitutional mandated task only by deciding to make it ‘apolitical’.”
