BEIJING: More than 70 percent people infected with the coronavirus have recovered in China and the country is bringing its epidemic under control.
This has been disclosed by WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus while talking to reporters in Geneva.
He said out of over 80,000 cases of coronavirus in China , more than 70 percent had recovered and had been discharged from the hospitals.
In China, several makeshift hospitals for coronavirus patients were closed, some schools were reopened and staff went back to work as normalcy slowly returned to the country after weeks of battling the epidemic.
According to Chinese National Health Commission, more than 80,700 people were infected in mainland China while 40 new infections reported from Hubei had been on a downward trend for several weeks.
Commission said in Wuhan nearly 31,000 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital while around 19,000 people were still getting treatment for the virus.
On Mar 8, the World Health Organization (WHO) had said at least 101 countries and regions had reported confirmed cases of coronavirus.
According to WHO report, a total of 105,586 confirmed cases of COVID-19 had been reported worldwide with an increase of 3,656 infections, including 3,610 new cases outside China.
Report said among 24,727 confirmed cases outside China, 484 people had died of COVID-19, which marked an increase of 71 deaths compared Mar 7.
