Outrage on social media as woman stripped, filmed in capital

Islamabad Police announced in the early hours of Wednesday that they had arrested the main culprit behind stripping and filming a woman in the capital as social media outrage intensified.

Earlier, some videos and photos went viral on social media which showed that a woman along with her male companion was manhandled and sexually assaulted by a group of men led by a person named Usman Mirza in Islamabad. The incident emerged on Tuesday.

In the latest development, two more accused have been arrested.

Twitter Reactions

Many prominent personalities on Twitter have condemned the incident while pointing out at Prime Minister Imran Khan’s remarks, linking the incidents of sexual violence with women’s modesty, including debate around the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill, 2021.

U blame women for being raped cuz of their clothes, reject bills that will punish domestic abusers n now men go around raping girls n make videos of it. This 1 is in our capital city. A few kilometres from ur home Mr President @ImranKhanPTI its time for a change #ArrestUsmanMirza

If Babar Awan and usual actors find sometime from resisting domestic violence bill, do something against rapists like #arrestUsmanMirza who are roaming free in Islamabad. Or someone should horrific videos to PM IK because his advisors won’t.

Don't have the stomach to share that sexual assault clip but that #UsmanMirza lowlife & his abettors should spend the rest of their lives in jail. God knows how many others they've raped. Hope @ICT_Police takes immediate action & makes an example of him. #ArrestUsmanMirza

When will Police in Pakistan start functioning without the need for hashtags to trend on social media? #ArrestUsmanMirza

While some netizens have requested people to avoid sharing the content which contains the images of the victims.

Instant justice and speedy trial of heinous offence is the only solution to root out violence against women. #ArrestUsmanMirza & all those who shamelessly witnessed the crime.
Plz do not share the video & picture of the victims!
