One Islamabad United player tests positive for COVID-19

KARACHI: One Islamabad United player has tested positive for coronavirus, local media reported on Monday.
Geo TV has quoted sources as saying that rapid coronavirus testing of players is being conducted at the hotel. While, the match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators, which was scheduled to be held at 7:00pm at the National Stadium Karachi on Monday (today), has been delayed by one hour.
A reporter of the local TV claimed that the man affected with the viral infection is a foreigner. While, another media source claimed that Fawad Ahmed was affected with the infection.
The news, if true, can put the entire mega cricket event at risk as higher international authorities may interfere if the virus spread among players. This also shows that there might have been breach of bio-secure bubble which was created around the PSL teams.
The player had shown symptoms of the disease two days ago and he was immediately isolated henceforth.
Later, Islamabad United revealed name of the player affected with coronavirus.
“One of our players, Fawad Ahmed, tested positive for Covid-19 and was immediately put in isolation two days ago. All other Islamabad United players and members have tested negative and have been cleared to play.
“We wish Fawad a speedy recovery,” Islamabad United announced in an official statement.
The match was later announced to be further delayed by one hour. Now the match will start at 9:00pm.
