OIC Session: OIC is working for unity and solidarity among Muslim Ummah, FM Shah Mehmood
Islamabad: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that the OIC organization is working for unity and solidarity among the Muslim Ummah and it is the voice of 2 billion Muslims around the world.
Addressing the OIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan wanted to further strengthen the role of OIC.
FM Shah Mehmood said that Pakistan has raised its voice against Islamophobia and today’s OIC meeting will clarify the strategy to deal with Islamophobia.
FM added, that two-thirds of the world’s refugees are from five Muslim countries where external interference is on the rise, leading to conflicts in the Middle East.
He said that tensions between the East and the West were a threat to world peace and that the world was in a state of turmoil.
FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s comments on Islamophobia:
On this occasion, the Foreign Minister said that Pakistan had raised its voice against Islamophobia and the UN had fixed March 15 as the day of Islamophobia.
He said that incidents of Islamophobia hurt Muslims all over the world and a framework needs to be developed to deal with this situation.
FM Shah Mehmood urges end to corruption:
On this occasion, Shah Mehmood Qureshi clarified that corruption is an important issue in Pakistan and other Muslim countries.
He said that there are difficulties in Muslim countries due to economic injustice. Good relations among Muslim countries are very important for dealing with financial crisis.
FM Shah Mehmood’s statement on Kashmir dispute:
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, while expressing his views on the Kashmir dispute, said that the Kashmir issue is the only dispute between Pakistan and India which affects development.
He said that Kashmir and Palestine have been under atrocities for the last seven decades and now like Palestine, efforts are being made to change the proportion of Muslim population in Kashmir.
