WhatsApp, the most popular messaging and video calling platform, has added a new feature that allows you to permanently mute (close) any person or group chat.

According to a foreign news agency, this option has recently been added to WhatsApp’s ‘chat settings’.

Earlier, the duration of any chat mute on WhatsApp was 8 hours, 1 week or a year, but now users are given the option to mute the chat ‘forever’ instead of one year.

This new feature of WhatsApp is now available in both Android and iOS apps.

If you also want to permanently mute a chat on WhatsApp, follow the procedure below.

  1. Open the chat you want to mute on WhatsApp
  2. After opening the chat, you will see the ‘Mute Notification’ option on the top right-hand side of your screen.
  3. Now when you click on this mute notification option, under the new update you will see the option to ‘Always’ mute the chat, after clicking on which the chat will be muted.
