ISLAMABAD: An accountability court of Islamabad has declared former Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) chairperson Farzana Raja an absconder and issued her non-bailable arrest warrant on Monday.
Accountability court Judge Asghar Ali ordered to block computerized national identity card (CNIC) of Farzana Raja and place her name in the Exit Control List (ECL). The court also set a date for hearing to indict Farzana separately. It remarked that the Supreme Court had directed not to end the investigation before it was completed.
Investigation officer of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has also been summoned on the next hearing, which has been scheduled to be held on June 4. The accountability watchdog had filed a reference against alleged embezzlement in the BISP and 19 people were nominated in the case.
Farzana Raja is alleged of tendering illegal contracts to four advertising agencies, contrary to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules. The NAB said that she inflicted loss to the national exchequer worth more than Rs50 crore. She is alleged of misusing her powers.
The reference has been sent to the Registrar Office for scrutiny.
