ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday said there was no shortage of testing kits in the country.

“Around 800,000 coronavirus testing kits are available at the present in the country,” NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal said while talking to a private news channel.

The chairman said 50 laboratories were working across the country while 18 more laboratories would be functional by the end of this month within every division or district.

He said the NDMA was making arrangements to provide medical equipment to the provinces and procured 850,000 testing kits since the outbreak of the pandemic.

On Apr 14, NDMA had decided to purchase all equipment for coronavirus protection from local market.

According to NDMA’s spokesperson, the decision was taken to support the local industry and benefit country’s development.

The spokesperson had said all protective equipment, except N-95 masks, were being manufactured in Pakistan. He said companies interested to manufacture N-95 mask would be supported.
