The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has urged Pakistan and India to “come together and seriously discuss their problems”, warning both countries of “a disaster of unmitigated proportions” in the case of any military confrontation.
Responding to a question about Kashmir dispute during his first press briefing of 2021 in New York on Thursday, Guterres said that it’s absolutely essential for the two countries to be able to come together and seriously discuss their problems. “It’s essential that human rights are fully respected in all territories that you mentioned( i.e India and Pakistan),” he continued.
“Our good offices are always available, and we will insist within it of finding peaceful solutions for problems that have no military solution,” the UN chief added.
In his response, Guterres concluded that any military confrontation between the two would be a disaster of unmitigated proportions for both countries and for the whole world.
