KARACHI: Nine members of the same family have contracted COVID-19’s deadly Indian variant, Delta, in Karachi.
All the family members have been admitted to Lyari General Hospital’s COVID-19 high dependency unit. In-charge COVID-19 ICU Prof Anjum Rehman said that the affectees included husband, wife and children as well. The affected family was resident of Malir, he added.
“All the family members are being provided complete medical facilities, while the staff has been alerted in this regard,” he said.
Prof Anjum said 42 ventilators at Lyari General Hospital’s COVID-19 ICU and 100 out of HDU’s 130 beds were occupied with patients, therefore the masses were requested to strictly follow the coronavirus SOPs.
The vaccination drive against Covid-19 is underway across the country to prevent spread of the disease.
According to latest updates issued by the National Command and Operation Center, more than 3.942 million people have been so far fully vaccinated while more than 15.941 million people partially vaccinated.
The total confirmed covid cases in the country at the moment are over 976,000.
Over 1590 new confirmed covid cases and 21 deaths due to the disease were reported across the country during last twenty four hours.
