Worldwide famous singer and rapper Nicki Minaj was invited to perform at Jeddah World Fest on July 18, 2019.
The news made headlines as Saudi Arabia is known as the world’s most conservative country and where no women had a permission to do public concerts until two years ago.
On Friday, the Human Rights Foundation wrote an open letter to Minaj asking her not to perform, citing Saudi Arabia’s record on women rights, the LGBTQ community, and freedom of expression.
“After careful reflection, I have decided to no longer move forward with my scheduled concert at Jeddah World Fest” – Nicki Minaj
She further said, “While I want nothing more than to bring my show to fans in Saudi Arabia, after better educating myself on the issues, I believe it is important for me to make clear my support for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community and freedom of expression.”
She further explained her decision through a tweet
After, Nicki Minaj cancelled the concert, the Human Rights Foundation thanked Minaj for her decision.
Saudis are not happy on her decision and many replied in anger over “Women Rights” issue.
