Next pandemic could be 10 times worse, warns Bill Gates
Microsoft’s co-founder and American business magnate, Bill Gates, has warned that an upcoming pandemic could be 10 times worse than COVID-19 Pandemic.
Bill Gates is of the view that humanity is not prepared for what he predicts could be far worse than the current pandemic. “This pandemic is bad, but a future pandemic could be 10 times more serious,” said Bill Gates while giving an interview to a German media,
Admiring the efforts of scientist in making vaccines, the business tycoon said that if this pandemic had developed five years ago, the world would not have had a vaccine in such a short time.
Bill Gates is also known for his philanthropic career who has also advised the rulers to avoid vaccination nationalism and to distribute the vaccine fairly.
Earlier in another interview to Financial Times, he stated that similar types of viral outbreaks would likely to occur every 20 years or so.
“The unfortunate reality is that COVID-19 may not be the last pandemic. We do not know when the next one will arrive, or if it will be a flu, a coronavirus or some new disease that we have never seen before. But what we do know is that we cannot allow ourselves to be caught off guard again. The threat of the next pandemic will always be over our heads, unless the world takes steps to prevent it. ” Bill Gates wrote in his blog (2021 annual letter) — also co-written by his wife Melinda Gates.
Warnings and predictions are not the only things that he shared, Bill Gates has some suggestions to prevent such disasters.
“When it comes to preventing pandemics, scientific tools alone aren’t enough. The world also needs field-based capabilities that constantly monitor for troubling pathogens and can be spun up as soon as they’re needed,” the Microsoft’s co-founder explained.
Bill Gates has told the world that it needs a ‘global alert system’ through which, he believes, humanity can get ahead of infectious-disease outbreaks.
